Convert NPR to USD, EUR, GBP, INR and 100+ currencies using official Nepal Rastra Bank rates updated daily.

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) publishes official mid-market exchange rates every business day. These rates are the benchmark used by all licensed banks and exchange counters in Nepal. While street moneychangers may offer slightly different rates, they are legally required to stay within the NRB band.
The best places to exchange currency in Kathmandu are the licensed exchange counters near Thamel and the international departure area of Tribhuvan International Airport. Banks also exchange money but require your passport. ATMs (Standard Chartered, Nabil, Himalayan Bank) accept most international Visa/Mastercard debit cards and offer competitive rates.
Rates are approximate. Use the calculator above for live NRB rates.
Many trekking agencies, upscale hotels and tour operators in Kathmandu and Pokhara accept USD and EUR for major transactions like trek packages and hotel deposits. However, for day-to-day expenses — food, local transport, tea houses — you will need Nepali Rupees (NPR).
Is it better to exchange money before arriving in Nepal?
Exchange rates in Nepal (Kathmandu) are generally competitive with or better than those in Western countries. Bring a small emergency amount in USD and exchange the rest in Kathmandu.
Can I use my credit card in Nepal?
Visa and Mastercard are accepted at most hotels and larger restaurants in Kathmandu and Pokhara. A 3–4% surcharge is common. Cash is king on all trekking routes.
