A classic 12-day trek into the Annapurna Sanctuary — a natural amphitheatre ringed by 13 peaks over 7,000m. Stunning diversity of landscapes from subtropical lowlands to glacial alpine terrain.
The trek proper begins at Nayapul, a short drive from Pokhara, climbing through stone-stepped trails into Ghandruk, a large Gurung village with sweeping views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. From there, the route continues to Chomrong, the last permanent village before the trail drops into forest and climbs again through Sinuwa, Bamboo, and Dovan — a stretch of dense, humid rhododendron and bamboo forest that feels almost subtropical compared to what's waiting higher up.
Past Himalaya and Deurali, the valley narrows and the tree line disappears, opening into the approach to Machhapuchhre Base Camp, with the fishtail peak of Machhapuchhre itself rising directly overhead. From MBC, a final push brings you into the Annapurna Sanctuary — a glacial amphitheater enclosed by thirteen peaks over 6,000 meters, including Annapurna I at 8,091 meters, the tenth-highest mountain in the world. Reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters, surrounded on all sides by this wall of ice and rock, is what the whole trek builds toward.
The return route retraces much of the same trail but drops down through Bamboo to Jhinu Danda, home to natural hot springs beside the Modi Khola river — a genuinely welcome stop after several days of climbing and descending stone steps. From Jhinu Danda, the trail meets the road again near Nayapul for the drive back to Pokhara, and then the final overland leg back to Kathmandu.
Annapurna Base Camp gives you a genuinely dramatic high-altitude finish — a full amphitheater of 6,000-plus-meter peaks, not just a single summit view — without the altitude risk or logistics of a 5,000-meter pass crossing. It's well-suited to reasonably fit first-time trekkers, with well-established teahouse infrastructure the entire way, while still delivering a real physical challenge over eight days of steady climbing and descending on stone-stepped trails.

Land at Tribhuvan International Airport, where our team meets you and transfers you privately to your hotel in Kathmandu. Included
Landmarks
After breakfast, travel by private vehicle to Pokhara, a scenic 6-hour drive along the Prithvi Highway that follows river valleys most of the way. On arrival, the rest of the day is free to relax beside Phewa Lake, with the Annapurna range visible on clear afternoons — a good chance to rest before the trek begins tomorrow.
Included
Landmarks
A short drive from Pokhara brings you to Nayapul, the trailhead where the trek officially begins. The trail climbs through terraced farmland and stone-stepped paths for roughly 5–6 hours, passing through smaller villages before reaching Ghandruk, one of the largest Gurung settlements in the region, with sweeping views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre from the village itself.
Included
Landmarks
Today's 5–6 hour walk descends into a river valley before climbing back up the far side to Chomrong, the last permanent village on the route to Annapurna Base Camp. The steep stone staircase into and out of the valley is a fair introduction to the up-and-down rhythm the rest of the trek will follow, and Chomrong itself offers some of the best direct views of Annapurna South so far.
Included
Landmarks
A longer 6–7 hour day passing through Sinuwa, Bamboo, and Dovan, descending into dense, humid bamboo and rhododendron forest before climbing again toward Himalaya. This stretch feels almost subtropical compared to the alpine terrain waiting above, and it's common to spot langur monkeys moving through the forest canopy along the trail.
Included
Landmarks
The trail leaves the tree line behind today, passing through Deurali and Machhapuchhre Base Camp before the final push into the Annapurna Sanctuary itself. As you round the last ridge, the amphitheater opens up on all sides — thirteen peaks over 6,000 m, including Annapurna I at 8,091 m — and reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m delivers one of the most complete 360-degree mountain panoramas of any trek in Nepal.
Included
Landmarks
After a sunrise view of the Sanctuary often the clearest, calmest light of the whole trek begin the long descent back down through Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Deurali into the forest, retracing yesterday's route in reverse over roughly 6–7 hours. Moving downhill after reaching altitude tends to feel easier on the lungs, even with the long stone-stepped descent on tired legs.
Included
Landmarks
A shorter 4–5 hour day continuing the descent through Chomrong and down to Jhinu Danda, known for its natural hot springs beside the Modi Khola river. After several days of climbing and descending stone steps, most trekkers head straight down to soak in the springs before dinner — a genuinely well-earned reward on this trek.
Included
Landmarks
A final short trek of 2–3 hours brings you down to the road near Nayapul, where a private vehicle picks you up for the drive back to Pokhara. The rest of the day is free — a real bed, hot shower, and Pokhara's lakeside restaurants are a welcome change after eight days on the trail.
Included
Landmarks
A scenic overland drive returns you to Kathmandu by evening, following the same river valley route as the journey out. It's a straightforward travel day, and most trekkers use it to rest and start reflecting on the trip before the final day in the capital.
Included
Landmarks
A buffer day built into the itinerary in case of any delays earlier in the trip, and otherwise free for rest, souvenir shopping in Thamel, or an optional add-on city tour of Kathmandu's Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, or Boudhanath Stupa.
