One of the world's great long-distance treks — 160km of extraordinary landscape diversity culminating in the crossing of the Thorong La pass (5,416m). Epic, classic, unforgettable.
The trek leaves Kathmandu on Day 1, driving and trekking in the same day to reach Tal, the first proper village along the Marsyangdi valley trail. From there, the route climbs steadily through Danakyu, Chame, and Upper Pisang, following the classic lower Annapurna Circuit trail through pine forest, apple orchards, and increasingly Tibetan-influenced villages, before reaching Manang the trek's main acclimatization hub, with Braga Monastery just below the village.
After a rest day in Manang built around optional hikes to Gangapurna Lake, Chongkor Viewpoint, or Ice Lake (Kicho Tal), the route breaks away from the standard circuit trail. Instead of heading straight toward Yak Kharka, it climbs via Khangsar to Tilicho Base Camp, then continues the next day to Tilicho Lake itself a vast, high-altitude lake at over 4,900 m, before descending to Shree Kharka. From there, a long trekking day connects back to the main Thorong La route at Yak Kharka, rejoining the standard circuit for the final push through Thorong Phedi and over the pass.
The crossing of Thorong La (5,416 m) remains the trek's defining day, descending into Muktinath on the far side. From Muktinath, the trip finishes by road driving through Jomsom and down the Kali Gandaki valley to Pokhara, rather than flying, before a final overland drive back to Kathmandu closes the loop.
The standard Annapurna Circuit is already one of Nepal's best long treks; adding Tilicho Lake makes it more remote, more physically demanding, and noticeably less crowded through the middle section, since most standard-circuit trekkers skip the detour entirely. It suits trekkers who've already done a high-altitude trek before, or who specifically want the lake reached via one of the highest trails in the world as part of their Annapurna experience rather than an afterthought.

Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake — 13 Days · 13 days
The trip begins with a combined drive-and-trek day out of Kathmandu, following the road up the Marsyangdi valley toward the trailhead before continuing on foot along the riverbank trail to Tal Village. The valley here is lush and subtropical, a sharp contrast to the high desert waiting weeks ahead, with waterfalls and terraced farmland lining the route. Tal itself sits on a flat river plain beneath a dramatic waterfall, marking the first proper overnight stop of the trek.

A longer 7-hour walking day following the Marsyangdi River further upstream, passing through Dharapani and Bagarchhap, two villages where the architecture and culture begin visibly shifting toward Tibetan-Buddhist influence. The trail crosses several suspension bridges and climbs through mixed forest before reaching Danakyu, a small trailside settlement where you'll spend the night.

Landmarks
A 6-hour walk through forested trail brings you to Chame, the district headquarters of Manang. The route passes through Timang and Thanchowk, with the first real glimpses of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal opening up through gaps in the tree line as the valley climbs. Chame itself has a small hot spring, a welcome stop for tired legs before the trail continues into higher country.

Landmarks
A 5-hour walk climbs past Bhratang's apple orchards and beneath the sheer rock face of Paungda Danda, one of the trek's most dramatic natural landmarks. As the trail nears Upper Pisang, the landscape and architecture shift noticeably toward the drier, Tibetan-style villages that define the upper valley, with your first proper views of the Annapurna massif appearing on clear days.
Included
Landmarks
A 6-hour walk via the higher route through Ghyaru and Ngawal, trading a steeper climb for some of the best mountain views on the entire circuit. The trail passes close to Braga, home to a centuries-old monastery built directly into the cliffside, before descending into Manang village itself — the circuit's largest settlement and key acclimatization stop, with Annapurna II and Gangapurna dominating the skyline.
Included
Landmarks
A rest day built around acclimatization rather than distance, with three short optional hikes to choose from: Gangapurna Lake, a turquoise glacial lake just below the village; Chongkor Viewpoint, a moderate climb with wide panoramic views; or Ice Lake (Kicho Tal), the longest and most demanding of the three, sitting well above 4,600 m. Trekkers can pick one, combine a couple, or simply rest in the village — the point of the day is adjusting to altitude before the harder terrain ahead.

Landmarks
The route leaves the main Annapurna Circuit trail here, heading toward Khangsar and then climbing along an exposed, landslide-prone trail above the Marsyangdi's tributary toward Tilicho Base Camp. It's a shorter day at 4 hours, but the terrain is noticeably more remote and rugged than anything covered so far, setting up tomorrow's push to the lake itself.
Included
Landmarks
An early start takes you up to Tilicho Lake itself, at roughly 4,919 m one of the highest lakes in the world, framed by the peaks of the Tilicho and Khangsar massifs. After time at the lake, the route descends to Shree Kharka rather than returning to Tilicho Base Camp, covering a full 6 hours of trekking across genuinely remote, high-altitude terrain.
Included
Landmarks
A long, 7-hour connector day linking the Tilicho route back to the main Annapurna Circuit trail at Yak Kharka. The trail stays high and remote throughout, with far fewer trekkers than the standard circuit route, before rejoining the main trail and its more familiar teahouse infrastructure at Yak Kharka.

Landmarks
A 6-hour walk brings you to Thorong Phedi, the final stop before the pass, with some groups continuing a further hour or so up to High Camp to shorten tomorrow's summit push. The terrain is stark and largely above the tree line, and the afternoon is spent resting and preparing gear ahead of the early start required for the pass crossing.

Landmarks
The trek's longest and most demanding day, at roughly 9 hours end to end. You'll start well before dawn to reach Thorong La (5,416 m) before the wind picks up, climbing steadily over thinning air, then crossing the exposed pass itself, marked by prayer flags at the summit. The descent on the far side is long and knee-testing, dropping over 1,600 vertical meters down to Muktinath, where the day finally ends at the sacred pilgrimage site.

Landmarks
Rather than flying out, this itinerary drives the full distance from Muktinath to Pokhara, passing through Jomsom and down the Kali Gandaki valley the deepest gorge on Earth before continuing on to Pokhara. It's a long 8-hour travel day on rough mountain roads that gradually improve as you descend, but it means seeing the dramatic shift from high desert back to green hill country firsthand rather than from the air.
Included
Landmarks
A final overland drive along the Trishuli river valley returns you to Kathmandu, closing out the trip. Most trekkers treat this as a wind-down day after a demanding trek — a chance to rest, look back through photos, and reflect on both the standard circuit sections and the remote Tilicho detour before the trip officially ends in Kathmandu.
