One of Nepal's most remote treks — visiting both base camps (North 5,143m / South 4,780m) of the world's 3rd highest peak through pristine wildlife habitat and authentic Rai, Limbu and Sherpa communities.
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – 17 Days is one of Nepal's most spectacular remote Himalayan adventures, taking trekkers deep into the eastern Himalayas around Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain at 8,586 meters.
This challenging journey combines the North Base Camp at Pangpema with the South Base Camp viewpoint at Oktang, creating an extraordinary traverse through some of Nepal's least-developed and most dramatic mountain landscapes.
The trail travels through dense forests, traditional Himalayan villages, high alpine valleys, glacial terrain and challenging mountain passes. Along the way, trekkers experience the culture of communities including Limbu, Sherpa and Bhote peoples while exploring the remote landscapes of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.
The itinerary begins and ends in Kathmandu, with domestic air travel and overland transportation connecting the capital with eastern Nepal. The trekking section follows the Ghunsa Valley toward Lhonak and Pangpema before crossing the high mountain passes toward Tseram and the southern side of Kanchenjunga.
This is an ideal adventure for experienced trekkers seeking remote trails, dramatic Himalayan scenery, high-altitude trekking and a less-crowded alternative to Nepal's more popular trekking routes.
Altitude is one of the most important considerations on the Kanchenjunga trek.
The itinerary includes an acclimatization day at Ghunsa, but individual responses to altitude vary.
Trekkers should immediately inform their guide if they experience symptoms such as:
